EnvironmentDon Hammersmith of Defiance County went from no-till for lack of time to diverse cover-crop mixes, poultry litter and precise nutrient rates, and now finds a worm in almost every spadeful, earning the new small-farm category of the Ohio Conservation Farm Family Award.
The Braddock, Kellogg, Hammersmith, McKown, Wolfe families and Turpin Farms will be honoured on 24 September at Farm Science Review in a programme founded by Ohio Farmer magazine and now run by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
