CropsAs harvest winds down, DTN's View From the Cab farmers in Maryland and Minnesota say nature supplied much of their nitrogen this year, extra fertiliser paid little, and a drone-seeded cover crop failed in the dry.
CropsArevo's Arginex, an arginine-and-phosphate seed treatment, raised winter wheat yields by 0.26 t/ha across seven sites in France, Germany, Italy and Poland, and matched full-fertiliser yields with 20% less nitrogen and phosphorus.
CropsA Cambridgeshire manager melts his own urea and cuts N by about 20%, a Suffolk grower has gone from 200-220 to about 120 kg/ha, and a Pembrokeshire dairy farmer grew the same grass on 83 kg/ha.
AgribusinessThe eight projects add up to more than $1.34 billion of proposed investment in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur fertilizer, and USDA estimates they could cut nitrogen prices by 4.4% and potash by 5.3%.
CropsA Rothamsted Research study finds fertiliser manufacture is up to 47% of the energy-related footprint on arable farms, and that best-practice nitrogen use would cut fertiliser-linked energy by 16% to 40%.
AgribusinessThe world's largest fertiliser producer closed its Point Lisas nitrogen complex over gas supply, while DTN's survey showed UAN32 up 6% in a month and potash back above $500 a ton.
CropsAt the Centre for Sustainable Cropping near Dundee, barley after beans needed 22kg/ha less nitrogen and yielded 1.2t/ha more in four of five years, though not in the dry 2022 season.
AgribusinessCanadian start-up ClearCost, which lets farmers track fertilizer prices and contract deliveries, has closed a Series A round and will relaunch its platform across North America in early 2027.
AgrotechIceland's Atmonia makes ammonia from nitrogen and water in one electrochemical step, without producing hydrogen first, and aims for a container unit making about 150 tons a year on farms.
CropsThe Swedish company's arginine-phosphate seed coating was tested by contract researchers in Europe and Brazil; the results are company-released.
EnvironmentA Shandong Agricultural University study found that pelletised straw reduced nitrous oxide emissions from nitrogen-fertilised saline-alkali soil by 43 to 46 percent, more than crushed straw, manure compost or biochar.
AgribusinessPowered by the active DMPSA-K2, the ready-to-use inhibitor slows the conversion of ammonium to nitrate and can be blended with urea, ammonium nitrate, DAP, MAP, NPK and liquid fertilisers at the plant or along the supply chain.
AgrotechBurnaby's Lucent BioSciences will use up to C$1,976,150 from the Agricultural Clean Technology Program to develop a biodegradable starch-based coating for controlled-release nitrogen fertiliser, replacing the polymer shells that leave microplastics in soil.
