The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers in different parts of the country over the next five days, with moderately heavy falls at places and temporary gusty winds accompanying the rain. The outlook covers the 120 hours from 9am on Thursday.

On Thursday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are likely at many places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. The mild heat wave over Dhaka, Faridpur, Rangpur, Jashore and Khulna districts may abate during the day.

On Friday, rain or thundershowers are possible at one or two places in all eight divisions; day temperatures should stay about the same while night temperatures may rise slightly. On Saturday, rain is likely at many places in Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions, with both day and night temperatures rising slightly.

On Sunday, rain is expected at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and at one or two places in the other five; day temperatures should hold steady and night temperatures may fall a little. On Monday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds are possible at a few places in all eight divisions, with temperatures largely unchanged. The department kept the possibility of moderately heavy rainfall at places on every one of the five days.

Behind the pattern is the possible formation of a low over the north Andaman Sea and the adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. The axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam; the monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay. The extended five-day outlook shows no significant change.
