Mouth-Watering Watermelon Laddu

A step-by-step recipe for laddus made from blended watermelon, semolina, milk powder and coconut.

Fruits

Watermelons are everywhere in the markets now, even if the price is a little high. Watermelon is a favourite fruit for everyone and has many health benefits too. Various kinds of drinks can be made with it.

But have you ever eaten watermelon laddu? It is so tasty that the flavour will stay with you after a single bite. So here is the recipe for these unusual watermelon laddus.

Ingredients

  • Watermelon, as needed
  • Ghee, one and a half tablespoons
  • Semolina, half a cup
  • Milk powder, half a cup
  • Sugar, half a cup
  • Desiccated coconut, 1/4 cup

Method

First cut the watermelon into pieces and remove the rind. Then cut the flesh into small pieces and discard the seeds. Blend the watermelon well; do not add any water.

Now put a pan on the stove and melt the ghee. Add the semolina and keep stirring. When the semolina is roasted, take it off. Then wash the pan and pour in the watermelon mixture.

When it has warmed a little, mix in the milk powder, then the sugar. Keep stirring. After cooking for a while, when the watermelon mixture thickens, add the desiccated coconut.

After cooking a little longer, add the roasted semolina and keep stirring well. At some point the semolina will turn like halwa. Stir for a while more.

When you see the mixture coming away from the sides of the pan, sprinkle over a little ghee, stir and take it off the heat. Let the laddu mixture cool. Then grease both hands with ghee, take a little of the mixture at a time and roll it into laddus.

Finally, roll the laddus in desiccated coconut to coat them. Your mouth-watering watermelon laddus are ready to serve.
