TIME magazine has named six agricultural technologies in the agriculture category of its Best Inventions of 2026, part of a list of 300 products and ideas, AgNavigator reported. TIME said the category highlights technologies "transforming farming, crop cultivation, and animal rearing".
BioLumic was chosen for its xTraits platform, which develops crop traits in seeds by treating them with light, praised for "giving crops a stronger start". Burro Grande 44, described as an "all-purpose farm robot", carries picked fruit to collection points; its chief executive Charlie Andersen told TIME this makes each picker "30% more productive".
Beewise Robi was recognised for using automation and artificial intelligence to manage beehives and support pollination. The 2nd Nature AgWaste Portal uses AI to find commercially valuable compounds in farm and food-industry waste, "a second life for scraps" in TIME's words.
Saga Robotics' autonomous robot Thorvald treats vineyards and other specialty crops with ultraviolet light instead of conventional crop protection. AgNavigator said it is treating an estimated 30% of the UK's tabletop strawberry production and about 2,500 acres of California vineyards in 2026. The sixth winner, VunaNexus Aurin, is a fertiliser made from recycled human urine.
TIME said winners were chosen from nominations by its editors, correspondents and applicants worldwide and judged on originality, efficacy, ambition and impact.
