An agricultural technology and nutrition fair has opened in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar. The three-day fair began on 14 October at the Ramu upazila agriculture office and runs until 16 October.

It is organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) under the project Strengthening Nutrition and Food Security through Agricultural Development (PRO-ACT Bangladesh). The goal is to spread modern farm technology among farmers, encourage the production of safe and nutritious food, and raise awareness of food and nutrition security.

Stalls at the fair show modern cultivation methods, improved farm technology and nutrition management. Homestead nutrition gardens, a varied diet and climate-resilient farming practices are also being promoted.

Ramu upazila nirbahi officer Md Zillur Rahman presided over the opening, with Dr Bimal Kumar Pramanik, deputy director of the DAE in Cox's Bazar, as chief guest.

Special guests included additional deputy director Tapan Kumar Roy, Moheshkhali upazila agriculture officer Md Abdul Gaffar, Ramu upazila agriculture officer Tanzila Rahman, Pekua upazila agriculture officer Faruk Hossain Chowdhury, Ramu agricultural extension officer Sushanta Debnath Shuvo and Md Lokman Hakim of the Agriculture Information Service in Cox's Bazar. Farmers who benefit from the project, NGO representatives and journalists also attended.

The organisers say that introducing farmers to modern technology and involving them in growing nutritious food can strengthen food and nutrition security locally.
