3,910 Irish farmers apply in TAMS tranche 13, led by nutrient storage and farm safety

Demand for the farm modernisation grants has forced ranking and selection on recent tranches; 69,593 applications were lodged across the first twelve, and tranche 14 is open until December 4.

More than 3,900 farmers applied for tranche 13 of Ireland's Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3), the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has confirmed. The tranche closed on September 4, and a department spokesperson told Agriland that 3,910 applications had been submitted by the deadline.

TAMS 3 gives grants to build or improve a defined range of farm buildings and equipment. The Animal Welfare Nutrient Storage Scheme drew the most applications in this tranche, 1,137, followed by the Farm Safety Capital Investment Scheme with 1,053.

The scheme's popularity has outrun its budget. Because of "overall budgetary constraints", Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon has already announced that ranking and selection would apply to recent tranches. It operates on a "differentiated basis", with the farm safety and nutrient storage schemes seeing the highest rates of selection.

In all, 69,593 applications were submitted in the first twelve tranches of TAMS 2023–2027. Tranche 12, which closed on June 19, attracted 5,839 applications plus a further 1,395 rolled over from tranche 11.

Tranche 14 opened on September 5 and will close for applications on December 4, 2026. Aisling O'Brien reported the figures for Agriland.
