Saudi Arabia has raised Bangladesh's quota for Hajj 2027 by 5,000, so 83,500 people can go next year: 6,000 under government arrangements and 77,500 under private arrangements. The figures came from the religious affairs ministry on Thursday, 5 November.
Ministry sources say that because the quota had gone unfilled for several years, the Saudi government at first allotted the same 78,500 for 2027 that actually went last year. During registration, 17,500 more people than the quota allowed expressed interest, and registration closed with them on a waiting list.
The Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) then asked for a bigger quota. Religious Affairs Minister Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad sent a demi-official letter to his Saudi counterpart, and contacts continued at diplomatic and administrative levels.
On 3 October the Saudi government approved the extra 5,000 places through its Nusuk Masar system. The ministry shared them among 28 private lead agencies according to demand.
With 17,500 people waiting and 5,000 new places, not everyone interested will get a place from this allotment.
