In Dayarbazar, Radhanagar and Baramsiddipur in Companiganj upazila, Sylhet, Aman rice is beginning to ripen across wide fields at the foot of the border hills. Golden ears are showing in the green and harvesting has begun in places. Farm households are getting busier with bringing in the new crop, and the new-rice festival of Nabanna is close.
Prothom Alo photographer Anis Mahmud's ten pictures catch the moment: green and gold Aman fields, rice ripening under the hills, a flock of pigeons crossing the paddy, and cutting starting here and there.
Others show children delighting in the paddy next to their homes, a golden late-autumn afternoon, a thin veil of afternoon mist over hills and fields, and a child on a swing beside the rice.
The photographer's own pictures can be seen in Prothom Alo's photo story; the picture above is an openly licensed image of rice fields in the same region.
