The courtyards around the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah have 250 folding umbrellas to protect worshippers from sun and rain. The Saudi Press Agency says they cover more than 143,000 square metres together.
More than 228,000 worshippers can stand under them at one time.
Each umbrella measures about 25.5 metres in length and width, stands about 22 metres high and weighs about 40 tonnes.
A total of 436 mist fans run along the sides of the umbrellas.
