In a Bangladeshi kitchen, prawns always bring a festive feel, and all the more so when they come as a steamed bhapa dish full of the aroma of coconut. Though made with simple ingredients, the recipe is so rich in flavour that one taste will make you want it again. Here is an easy home recipe for prawns steamed with coconut, which adds taste and aroma to both everyday meals and special occasions.

First wash and clean the prawns well. Then marinate them thoroughly with coconut paste, mustard paste, green chillies, salt, turmeric, sugar and mustard oil.

Put the spiced prawns in a steel tiffin box and scatter a little more mustard oil and green chilli on top. Heat water in a saucepan, place a stand inside and set the closed prawn box on it. Cover with a lid, steam for 20 minutes and take it off the heat. Your coconut prawn bhapa is ready.
