Alongside cultivation and a local market, jute has revived in exports. Attractive and varied jute products are being made in Bangladesh with world demand in mind.

The harm of synthetic fibres has become a warning sign worldwide, so demand for jute goods has risen again, along with world prices and exports.

Some 131 diversified jute products are going to Europe, America and other markets. From shoe soles and shoes to bags and clothing, they are catching the eye of affluent buyers in developed countries.

Mahbubur Rahman Patwary, managing director of Sonali Aansh Industries Limited, said they try to make products the way foreign buyers want, and the response is good.

The country now has more than a hundred busy, fully export-oriented private jute goods factories competing with many other countries. Patwary said if quality is maintained, the golden fibre can be sold at the price of gold. Those involved hope that with continued public and private effort, jute's export success will go far.
