Government emergency food aid is under way across the haor region. Flood-hit people hope that if it continues they can gradually recover, though there are some complaints of irregularities. They want a permanent solution so they do not face such disasters again.
Relief instead of harvest
The haor has its hardships, but its abundant rice meets much of the country's food demand. At the time when haor people should have been busy harvesting and threshing, they are standing at relief distribution points.
Rice and cash
In nearly all 88 unions of Sunamganj, the district hit hardest by the flash floods and rain, households are receiving 30 kg of rice and 500 taka each, including in Lakshmansree union of Sunamganj Sadar.
The Open Market Sale (OMS) for the poor was due to end in April but continues in 42 unions of Sunamganj during the disaster.
Complaints
Affected people have various complaints, similar to the usual complaints about relief at other times.
