Aam sorshe ilish, hilsa cooked with green mango and mustard, is a tasty dish that goes well with panta, plain rice or pulao on Pahela Baishakh.

Eating panta-ilish, watered rice with hilsa, on Pahela Baishakh has been a custom for ages. Among the many hilsa dishes, one tasty one is aam sorshe ilish, hilsa with green mango and mustard. It goes very well with panta, plain white rice or pulao. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients


  • Hilsa: 4 pieces
  • Mustard oil: 50 grams
  • Black cumin (kalojira): a little
  • Green chillies: 4
  • Turmeric: a little
  • Chilli powder
  • Green mango: 1
  • Black and white mustard paste: 50 grams
  • Salt to taste

Method


Clean the hilsa and rub it with salt. Heat oil in a pan and temper it with black cumin and green chillies. A little later add the green mango pieces, then add the salt, turmeric and chilli powder one by one.

Cook it down a little and pour in water. When the mango is nearly boiled, strain the mustard paste and add its liquid. Then add the hilsa pieces. As soon as the hilsa is cooked, the aam sorshe ilish is ready.
