A "Tree Monitoring App" will soon be launched to record and track every sapling planted under the government's election pledge to plant 250 million trees over the next five years. The app will monitor each sapling's location, care and survival using data.
The information was shared on Thursday, 16 July, at the Secretariat at the second meeting of the support task force of the cell set up to implement the programme. Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, chaired the meeting.
Data-based tracking
The meeting discussed in detail how to implement the Prime Minister's 250 million tree plantation programme to protect the environment and tackle climate change. It was told the app would allow precise tracking and data-based monitoring of saplings, making it easier to follow progress and store information.
Focal point officials from various ministries presented updates on ongoing work, and the meeting discussed how to speed up implementation.

Those present included Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, the Prime Minister's special assistant on environment, forest and climate change (with secretary rank) and technical expert; Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, vice-chancellor of Dhaka Central University; technical expert Jamail Bashir JB; Shamima Begum, additional secretary (administration), and Shahanara Yasmin Lily, joint secretary, of the environment ministry; and focal point officials from other ministries.
