Nufarm has introduced Mountain, a Group 2 herbicide for spring and winter wheat built on flucarbazone-sodium, and the company expects it to be on sale for the spring 2027 growing season. What Nufarm is selling as new is less the active ingredient than the formulation, which it says disperses and dissolves better and is easier to handle.
On weed control, the company lists grass weeds including wild oat, foxtails, barnyard grass, bromes and Italian ryegrass, along with several broadleaf weeds that compete with wheat for nutrients, moisture and sunlight. Growers can apply it from the one-leaf stage of the wheat up to 60 days before harvest.
The handling claims address common complaints about herbicide formulations, namely dispersion, storage and tank mixing. Nufarm says the product mixes well with many broadleaf herbicides used in wheat, so that growers can build their own tank mixes, and that it stays flowable after being stored in the cold.
"Growers need products that not only provide proven weed control but also make applications more efficient," said Jeff Wagner, Nufarm's vice president of sales for crop protection. He said the product delivers the performance expected of flucarbazone with improved distribution and user experience.
Mountain has already been registered in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington and Wyoming, and more registrations are expected. These are the company's own descriptions of the product. Weed competition can lower yield, raise costs and complicate harvest, which is why a wheat grower weighs both control and ease of use when choosing a product.
