Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) in Dhaka celebrated its 25th founding anniversary and silver jubilee on Friday, 11 September, with a day of events. At 9 am Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Latif led the hoisting of the national and university flags to the national anthem; after prayers led by Hafez Maulana Md Abdul Awal, imam of the central mosque, the vice-chancellor released coloured balloons and white doves to open the programme.

A procession set off from the Faculty of Agriculture and wound past the administrative building, the TSC and the halls before ending at the administrative building. Teachers, students, officers, staff and workers took part, and students dressed as farmers, fishers and veterinarians presented Bangladesh's agriculture, culture and heritage in dance and song. The vice-chancellor then opened a tree-planting programme on the campus, fingerlings were released into the SAU pond and a cake was cut with the university community.

At 11 am a discussion in the fourth-floor conference room of the administrative building reviewed the university's 25 years of expectations and achievements and its plans, and recalled the history and contribution of Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, the 'Tiger of Bengal'. Speakers stressed a coordinated effort to take SAU's teaching, research and extension work further.

Those present included Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Belal Hossain, Treasurer Professor Muhammad Abul Bashar, Professor Md Zakir Hossain, dean of the Faculty of Agribusiness Management, Professor Dr M Salahuddin Mahmud Chowdhury, dean of postgraduate studies, Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam, dean of the Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Professor Dr Kazi Ahsan Habib, dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Professor Dr Naznin Sultana, director of the Institute of Seed Technology, and Dr F M Aminuzzaman, director of SAURES, along with teachers, officers, staff and students of the faculties and offices.
