Mango falooda, a popular chilled dessert, can be made at home in the mango season with a few everyday ingredients.

Fruits

Dishes made with ripe mango are hugely popular in the summer season. Among them, mango falooda is a popular dessert that makes the mouth water at first sight. In the mango season this cold, sweet dish can easily be made with a few ordinary ingredients to hand. Besides its taste, mango falooda helps keep the body cool in the heat and makes a delicious dessert.

Here is how to make mango falooda at home.

Preparing the ingredients

First soak basil seeds (tokma) in water. After 10 to 15 minutes, when the seeds have swollen and softened, drain the water and set them aside. Then boil the sago and the noodles separately. Once cooked, rinse them in cold water, drain well and set aside.

Next, make the jelly following the instructions on the packet and cut it into cubes. Meanwhile, boil milk in a pan until it thickens. Stir in sugar and condensed milk well. When the mixture has cooled, put it in the fridge. Cut one ripe mango into cubes and blend another into a thick purée.

Assembling the falooda

Take a tall glass for serving. First put mango jelly and the soaked basil seeds at the bottom of the glass. Then add, one after another, the boiled sago, noodles, mango gelatin, mango cubes and mango purée. Pour in the cold milk. Finally, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a few chopped nuts, small pieces of mango and some crushed ice, arrange nicely and serve.
