Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Sohana Nasrin has urged the district's department heads to give priority to agriculture-based initiatives, Manab Zamin's Kishoreganj staff reporter writes. She gave the direction while chairing the district development coordination committee meeting in the conference room of her office on Sunday morning.

Kishoreganj's Ratabhog rice and its cheese have been recognised as geographical indication (GI) products, the DC said, and the district must work to develop both. She also called for special attention to the district's lagging areas and gave directions on tourism, job creation and poverty reduction.

Privately run duck farms in the haor have created considerable potential, Sohana Nasrin said, adding that the administration would take the steps needed to expand them and that gaps such as vaccines had to be filled.

She asked for new entrepreneurs to be developed to create jobs and for an entrepreneur database so that they can get the support they need. "We want our entrepreneurs to play a role in every field, including agriculture, fisheries, livestock, tourism, food processing, rural industry and technology-based business," she said.

The meeting, moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ishtiaq Emon, was attended by District Livestock Officer Dr Md Abdul Mannan, Safe Food Officer Md Ashraful Islam Talukder of the district safe food authority, other department heads and the upazila nirbahi officers; speakers discussed agriculture, education, health and communications in the district.
