Agricultural entrepreneur Abul Kashem of Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga, has built a large orchard of year-round mangoes. Even in Hemanta (late autumn), his trees are laden with fragrant, attractive fruit, and those involved hope the sweet mango will spread across the country.

Elongated and bright yellow when ripe, the Katimon mango is famous worldwide for its sweetness. In Thailand it fruits three times a year, and now it is raising hopes in Bangladesh. The man behind this is Abul Kashem of Banka village in Jibannagar, whose 22-bigha orchard is fragrant with ripe mangoes this Hemanta.

Horticulture experts say this year-round mango is exceptional in quality. Abul Kashem has prepared to spread the variety and has already built up a stock of seedlings. The mango has also drawn the attention of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), which is preparing to expand Katimon cultivation.
