A Summer Treat: Make Green Jackfruit With Beef

A little beef can lift a curry of green jackfruit, or echor, which is now in the markets.

Fruits

Green jackfruit, or echor, has arrived in the markets. Many people have cooked echor curry on its own at home, but a little beef can make it many times tastier.

Because its texture is like meat, cooking it with beef gives a richer and more distinctive flavour. This spicy echor and beef could make a great dish for a special summer day. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • Beef: 500 grams
  • Green jackfruit (echor): 3 cups, cut into pieces
  • Chopped onion: 2
  • Ginger and garlic paste: 1 tablespoon each
  • Turmeric powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Chilli powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil: 3 tablespoons
  • Water as needed

Method

First boil the jackfruit pieces with a little salt and turmeric, then drain and set aside.

Heat oil in a pan and fry the chopped onion. Add the ginger-garlic paste, stir, then add all the ground spices and fry them.

Add the beef, stir well to coat it in the spices, and cook covered for a while so that the meat releases its water. Then add water as needed and cook the meat until half done.

When the meat is almost cooked, add the boiled jackfruit and mix well. Cook covered on medium heat so that the jackfruit and meat come together and absorb the spices.

Finally, sprinkle over the garam masala, leave on low heat for a while and take off the stove.
