For the first time in Bangladesh, a dairy farm with digital facilities has been built, Shykh Seraj reports. Round-the-clock information from cows fitted with smart technology is sent to a computer. Farmers and technology providers say a smart farm will be far more profitable than an ordinary one.

Smart technology reached dairy farms and the livestock sector in developed countries several years ago. In Bangladesh, its journey has begun at the dairy farm of businessman M. A. Sabur in Rupganj, Narayanganj. Of the farm's 200 cows, eight have initially been brought under the technology.

Grameenphone helped supply the technology. Through a neck tag hung around each cow's neck and a smart tag fitted to its ear, all information about the cow's physical condition goes to a computer.

Those involved say the technology makes it possible to tackle many risks and even protect a farm from losses. So although it is expensive at first, they say its results will be revolutionary in the long run.
