Khilgaon graveyard mosque still locked a year after it was finished

The mosque beside the Khilgaon-Talatala graveyard in Dhaka has not opened nearly a year after construction ended, and worshippers want it opened quickly.

Construction of the mosque beside the Khilgaon-Talatala graveyard in Dhaka ended nearly a year ago, but it has still not opened to worshippers. Our Islam reports that this has upset local residents and people who come to visit the graves.

Mufti Nurul Alam Ishaki, general secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh's Dhaka South unit, visited the mosque and graveyard on 31 October with several local politicians. In a video message he said worshippers in the area have to go to other mosques to pray because it is shut.

He called on Habibur Rashid Habib, the state minister for road and rail, and Md Abdus Salam, administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, to have it opened quickly. Any technical or administrative problem should be resolved so that it can open, he said.

In a later video message he said he had spoken to the state minister, who assured him that the lock would come off and the mosque would open to everyone within one to two weeks. The report carries no comment from the city corporation.
