China seeks closer ties with Bangladesh on farm technology, seeds and food processing

At a "Smart agriculture, shared future" seminar in Dhaka, Chinese embassy economic and commercial counsellor Song Yang called for stronger China-Bangladesh cooperation in modern farming, farm machinery, seed development and food processing.

China wants to deepen its cooperation with Bangladesh in modern agriculture, farm technology, seed development and food processing. Song Yang, economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Bangladesh, made the call at a seminar at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on Saturday, 17 October.

The seminar, titled "Smart agriculture, shared future", was organised by the Trade Development Bureau of China's Ministry of Commerce. Businesspeople from the two countries discussed farm machinery, seed production, food processing and modern agricultural technology. Government officials, trade bodies, companies and media from Bangladesh and China took part.

Song Yang said agriculture plays a major role in both national economies, and that cooperation in the sector has widened in recent years. Real progress, he said, is possible through greater production capacity, technological innovation and better farming methods.

Speaking of the Chinese companies at the event, he said such gatherings help Chinese businesses understand Bangladesh's market, local demand and policies better.

Noting that 51 years of diplomatic relations have taken the two countries' cooperation to a new height, he said he hoped joint ventures between their companies in modern agriculture would bring prosperity to the people of both.
