A mobile court in Birganj, Dinajpur, has seized 198 sacks of TSP (triple superphosphate) fertiliser being illegally stockpiled, Sarabangla reports. The raid took place on Saturday afternoon (10 October) at a paddy warehouse at Alam's rice-drying yard in Mahanpur village, Mohammadpur union, and the warehouse was then sealed.
The operation, based on a tip-off, was led by the upazila nirbahi officer, Suma Khatun. According to sources, the warehouse belongs to Md Alamgir Hossain, 40, of Ranpara-Mahanpur village.
The seized fertiliser has been handed to Birganj upazila agriculture officer Md Shariful Islam for distribution among farmers, and the money from its sale is to be deposited in the government treasury.
The raid against hoarding fertiliser meant for farmers is seen as an important step, and those involved say such monitoring must continue to keep farm inputs flowing properly. Ajker Patrika also reported the seizure.
The report is by Sarabangla's correspondent in Birganj, Dinajpur.
