In pictures, 9 October: mended nets, a scarecrow, kenaf in bloom

With hilsa fishing banned, Barishal fishers mend nets by the road; a scarecrow guards a Bogura field, kenaf flowers in Sirajganj and betel growers cut kash grass in Khulna, as seen by Prothom Alo's photographers.

Several of the pictures Prothom Alo's photographers took across Bangladesh on 9 October show fields, rivers and farmers at work. Here is what they show, in our words.

At Char Aicha in Shayestabad, Barishal, hilsa fishing in the rivers is banned for now. With no work, fishers sit by the roadside mending torn nets. Photo by Saiyan.

At Malipara village in Shajahanpur, Bogura, a scarecrow has been set up in a crop field to keep birds away. In Kaludanga village, Gabtali, in the same district, the canal water has dropped and the fishers are in no hurry to cast their nets. Both pictures are by Soyel Rana.

At Choubari in Kamarkhanda, Sirajganj, mesta or kenaf, a jute plant, is flowering in a farmer's field (photo: Ariful Gani). At Shiromoni, Khulna, betel-leaf growers are cutting kash grass from a sandy field to roof their betel vine sheds (photo: Saddam Hossain).

Near the Daulatdia ferry ghat in Rajbari, local trader Sohel Molla bought a 22-kilogram bagair catfish for Tk 28,600 on Tuesday afternoon and sold it for Tk 30,800 (photo: M Rashedul Haque). And at Rangapani village in Rangamati, a hill farmer hurries to work with a basket and a machete (photo: Supriyo Chakma).

The day's other pictures, of a drum maker and a women's football tournament, are not included here.
