Young Bangladeshi software engineer Shafiul Alam has won an international award for inventing smart technology for fish farming. The project was presented at one of Asia's largest innovation exhibitions, held in South Korea. Experts say the new invention could make a unique contribution to fish production.

Behind Bangladesh's success in fish production are countless farming ponds and the constant effort of small farmers. The industry has advanced with traditional methods and some modern technology. Farmers have made profits, but they have also suffered losses because of management failures. Shafiul's work aims to save fish farming from exactly those losses.

South Korea has shown great interest in the project, a modern device called the Smart Aerator with Auto Feeding System. The project won a scholarship as an international participant of the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) and the Korea Productivity Center (KPC), and came to the exhibition after winning a bronze award in the A Big Think competition.

The device is encouraging fish farmers as well as new researchers.

Thanks to this technology, Shafiul is contributing ideas to Korea's thinking on smart agricultural development, and at the same time preparing himself for bigger work.
