Make Amshotto With Just Three Ingredients

Amshotto, the popular sun-dried mango leather, can be made at home with just mangoes, sugar or molasses and vinegar.

Fruits

Both green and ripe mangoes are now easy to find in the market, so this is the time to make pickles and other dishes with them. One of the most popular mango preserves is amshotto, or mango leather, and it is very easy to make at home. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • Mangoes
  • Sugar or molasses (gur)
  • Vinegar

Take all the ingredients in suitable amounts.

Method

First cut the mangoes into small pieces and cook them on the stove with sugar or molasses to taste. After cooking for a while, the sugar will melt and the mango-sugar mixture will thicken. Then add vinegar as needed.

When the mixture becomes quite thick and turns reddish, take it off the heat and pour it into a tray brushed with oil. Then spread it evenly all round with a spoon or spatula.

Leave it in the sun for 7-8 days and it will be done. Turn the amshotto over from time to time so that both sides get the sun and dry out. Then cut it into whatever shape you like, and your amshotto is ready.
