Hog Plum Khatta with Coconut Paste

The sweet-and-sour hog plum, or amra, can be turned into a mouth-watering khatta with coconut paste.

Fruits

The amra, or hog plum, is a sweet-and-sour fruit that tastes delicious. Most people like it raw or ripe, many make amra pickle at home to eat all year round, and some cook tasty dishes with it.

You can also make a mouth-watering khatta with amra. Taste this special dish once and the flavour will stay with you. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • Amra, water, salt, chilli powder, coconut paste, sugar, mustard oil, dried chillies, chopped onion and chopped garlic, all to taste.

Method

Put a pan on the stove and add enough water. Add whole peeled amra, then salt, slit green chillies and a little chilli powder.

When the amra is roughly boiled, stir in coconut paste and sugar to taste. When the amra is fully cooked, fry dried chillies in mustard oil and add them to the amra.

Now temper with chopped onion and garlic in the same oil. Keep stirring, and when the onion and garlic turn brown, pour them over the amra.

Take it off the heat after it has come to the boil twice. Your amra khatta with coconut paste is ready.
