The air force will use drones to protect hilsa, in addition to the police and navy, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said. She was answering journalists' questions on Wednesday afternoon, 1 October, while visiting the Durga temple of Ranada Prasad Saha in Mirzapur, Tangail.
Last year's results
Like every year, a 22-day ban to protect mother hilsa begins on 4 October, she said. Last year's measures were successful, protecting 52.5 percent of mother hilsa. This year, the air force will also work with drones alongside the police and navy.
The main reason for lower hilsa catches, she said, is the use of current nets and "China nets", so authorities will be more vigilant this year and hope to protect more hilsa.
