Chinese manufacturer Zoomlion says it is building the world's most powerful tractor, an articulated model of up to 1,600 hp with a hybrid powertrain, unveiled at the CIAME agricultural machinery exhibition in China this week.

If the figure holds, it takes the title from the John Deere 9RX 830, whose engine delivers a maximum of 913 hp, Future Farming reports.

Zoomlion has released only a few details. The tractor reportedly uses an 800-volt system with two electric motors and a continuously variable transmission. The company quotes maximum torque of 7,200 Nm, a top speed of 40 km/h and a hydraulic oil flow of 636 litres a minute, and the tracks are 76 cm wide.

The engine behind the hybrid system has not been named, and neither has the tractor's unladen weight, which decides how much of that power reaches the ground. Future Farming says it will report more once Zoomlion publishes further specifications.
