Mohammad Nur Uddin, a young man from Rangunia upazila in Chattogram, has made a success of watermelon growing.

He learned the crop from Facebook and YouTube, and his plot of eight decimals has drawn attention locally.

More than 400 seedlings of two varieties were planted on the roughly eight decimals of land.

Close to a thousand melons have now set on about 400 plants.

The local agriculture office has supplied seed, fertiliser and other inputs, and gives regular technical advice.

Trellis watermelon on small plots is spreading across the country; it needs little land and little capital, which is drawing young growers to it.
