In Bangladesh the rainy season usually begins in June, so we also call it a monsoon month. That is why most crops are grown in the rainy season, in June.
June is also a month of rain, so its weather and soil are very suitable for growing vegetables, and crop yields are higher this month.
Almost every kind of vegetable is grown in June, and farmers earn more by growing vegetables at this time. That is why growers are busier in the rainy season, in June, than at other times.
In June you can grow jute leaves, red amaranth, Malabar spinach, gima kalmi, stem amaranth, bottle gourd, snake gourd, cucumber, beans, ridge gourd, spiny gourd, sweet pumpkin, okra, ash gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, sponge gourd, mukhi kachu and Latiraj kachu, among others.
But one thing must be kept in mind when growing in June: choose high land for the crops. Keep weeds cleared from around the base of these vegetables, and earth up the soil around the base where necessary.
Vegetables tolerant of flooding or waterlogging can also be grown. Water must not be allowed to stand in vegetable fields; if it does, arrangements must be made to drain it.
