The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation has rescued a brown phanimonsa, or cat snake, from a banana wholesale market in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

The snake was found inside a bunch of bananas at a banana wholesale market in Sreemangal on Wednesday (16 September).

Eyewitnesses said local people suddenly saw a snake inside a bunch of bananas, causing panic among those at the market. On receiving the news, the foundation's director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdip Deb Deep arrived and identified it as a phanimonsa.

The snake was caught unharmed and then handed over to the Sreemangal forest range officer.

Confirming the matter, Kazi Nazmul Islam, range officer of the Sreemangal Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the snake would be released into the forest.
