Sirajganj's district agricultural technology extension coordination committee has met to draw up its work plan for the rabi 2026-27 season. The meeting, organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Khamarbari, Sirajganj, was held on 23 September in the training hall of the Sadar upazila agriculture office.

It was chaired by DAE Sirajganj deputy director A K M Monjure Maola. Additional deputy director (crops) Mohammad Rezaul Haque read the resolutions of the previous meeting and presented the district's main current farm activities. The committee reviewed and approved the previous meeting's work plan.

Among the cash crops discussed were two chewing sugarcane varieties, BSRI Akh 42 (Rongbilash) and BSRI Akh 49 (Black Ruby), and the expansion of stevia cultivation. The agenda also covered intercropping with sugarcane, large-scale production and supply of year-round jackfruit seedlings, and the spread of BRRI dhan115, a high-yielding boro variety of black rice rich in vitamin E and antioxidants.

The meeting stressed testing soil before applying fertiliser in the right amount, sending samples to the soil research institute for fertiliser recommendations, and detecting adulterated fertiliser. Regular market monitoring was called for to keep chemical fertiliser stocked and supplied. Farmers' use of the Khamari app, and contributions and subscriptions to the Krishikatha magazine, were also discussed.

Diseases and pests of aman rice and other crops in the current season were discussed. In line with the production plan, decisions were taken on cultivation targets for the main crops in the kharif-2 and rabi (2026-27) seasons, on seed demand and on likely supply by source. Institutions presented appropriate technologies they have developed, and all offices were asked to coordinate in taking them to the field.

Thirty people attended, including DAE district and upazila officials; representatives of BADC, BSRI, BJRI, SRDI, the Cotton Development Board, BARI (OFRD), BRRI, BINA, the regional wheat and maize research centre, the Agriculture Information Service and the Department of Agricultural Marketing; BCIC fertiliser, pesticide and seed dealers; and farmer representatives.
