A calendar has been announced in Satkhira to prevent immature mangoes being marketed. Under it, Mumbai and Golapkhas mangoes may be harvested and sold from 9 May, Gobinda Bhog from 11 May, Himsagar from 22 May, Nyangra from 29 May and Amrapali from 10 June.

The calendar was announced at a meeting on the safe marketing of mangoes held at noon on Sunday (5 May) in the deputy commissioner's conference room.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Humayun Kabir and attended by Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) deputy director Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sarowar Hossain, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shoaib Ahmad, and Rajab Ali, general secretary of the Satkhira town raw and ripe mango traders' association, among others.

Mango growers and traders were urged at the meeting to harvest and market mangoes according to the announced schedule. Buyers were also advised to buy Satkhira mangoes carefully, keeping the schedule in mind.

Every day, large quantities of mangoes are being seized and destroyed somewhere in Satkhira over allegations that immature fruit was picked and ripened with chemicals. In the past week, 38,000 kg of immature mangoes were destroyed in mobile court drives in the district.
