India's Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA), AWL Agri Business Limited, Solidaridad Network Asia and Bharatkhand Foundation have launched Sarson Sankalp, a five-year, Rs 16 crore programme to promote regenerative mustard farming in the Bundi, Tonk and Jhalawar districts of Rajasthan.
The programme aims to engage 15,000 active farmers in 2026-27 and reach 40,000 by 2030-31. It will work on soil health, climate resilience, water and input-use efficiency, crop nutrition and biodiversity in mustard-based farming systems.
Rather than promoting one practice, it combines training, demonstration plots, model farms, soil and crop advisory, field extension, farmer records and performance monitoring, and will gather evidence on whether regenerative practices improve results on the farm.
AWL Agri Business funds it through its corporate social responsibility programme; SEA coordinates and monitors; Solidaridad provides technical expertise in regenerative agriculture; and Bharatkhand Foundation implements it in the field. The memorandum of understanding was signed at SEA's annual general meeting in Mumbai.
SEA president Sanjeev Asthana said the initiative could strengthen farmers' livelihoods while contributing to India's self-reliance in oilseeds. SEA executive director Dr B. V. Mehta said the quality of field execution and the evidence generated will decide whether the approach can be scaled across the mustard sector.
