How to Make Restaurant-Style Onion Salad at Home

The lachha onion ring salad, popular on social media, can be made in a few minutes with ingredients most kitchens already have.

Vegetables

A small salad can often make a big difference to a meal, which is why many people like to serve lemon, pickles or a cucumber and tomato salad with rice, biryani, kebabs or fried food. Recently, a different salad has become popular again on social media: lachha onion, or onion ring salad. It can be made in a few minutes with ordinary ingredients found at home.

Its simple recipe and restaurant-style taste have made it one of social media's viral food trends, and you can make it at home too. Here is how.

First, slice the onions thinly into rounds and separate the rings. Soak the rings in a bowl of ice-cold water for 10 to 15 minutes. This takes away much of the onion's sharpness and makes it crunchier.

After that, lift the onions out of the water, drain them well and put the rings in a dry bowl. Add red chilli powder, chaat masala, salt, fresh lemon juice, chopped green chilli and coriander leaves to taste.

Mix everything gently by hand so the rings do not break. For extra flavour you can sprinkle over a little roasted cumin powder. Serve with hot rice, roti, kebabs or meat.
