In times of uncertainty about livelihood, money or the future, Channel i Online recalls a short prayer of the Prophet Musa (Moses) preserved in the Quran: 'Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqir', meaning 'My Lord, I am truly in need of whatever good You send down to me.' (Surah al-Qasas, 28:24)
According to the Quran, after leaving Egypt Musa reached Madyan, where he saw a group of people watering their animals while two women waited to one side. He helped water their flock, then sat in the shade of a tree and told God of his need. The verses that follow describe the start of a new chapter in his life.
Writer Farzia Hossain notes that what sets the prayer apart is that Musa asked for nothing specific; he simply acknowledged his need and helplessness. The lesson for believers, she writes, is that alongside asking for particular things one can express one's need of God and one's reliance on Him.
