The mango is the king of fruits. It may be hard to find anyone who does not like this juicy fruit. Full of flavour and nutrition, mangoes are very good for health.
They are rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K, fibre, potassium, magnesium, folate and beta-carotene. Eating mangoes regularly in summer boosts immunity.
To enjoy mangoes, eat the fresh fruit, or at most make a sherbet or juice. But some foods should be avoided just before or right after eating mangoes, or various physical problems may follow. These are the foods to avoid:
Rice
Many people have mango on their plate at lunch, where rice comes with spicy curry. Eating mango after that can cause digestive problems, so mango should never be eaten with spicy food.
Water
Water should not be drunk after eating any fruit, not only mangoes. It affects the digestive system and can cause diarrhoea. Drink water half an hour after eating fruit.
Bitter gourd
Bitter gourd is a popular and quite healthy vegetable, but mango and bitter gourd should not be eaten together. Bitter gourd should not be eaten even after mango, as it can cause vomiting.
Sour yoghurt
In summer many people eat sour yoghurt and ripe mango together. This is harmful for the stomach and can increase problems such as stomach pain, vomiting and bloating, so do not eat the two together.
Soft drinks
Never drink a soft drink right after eating mango. Any fizzy drink can cause problems such as indigestion, and even gastric trouble.
