A snake charmer named Ali Akbar Sardar, 50, has died after being bitten by a snake while trying to break its venom fangs in Kalkini upazila, Madaripur.

He died while undergoing treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on the evening of Friday, 23 June. He lived in Dakshin Ramjanpur village of Ramjanpur union in Kalkini upazila.

According to family and local sources, Ali Akbar Sardar kept five or six snakes, which he used to put on shows around the villages.

On Friday afternoon, at his own home, he tried to break the venom fangs of one of the snakes. The snake bit him and he fell ill. Family members took him to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where he died that evening while under treatment.

Kalkini police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shamim Hossain told Jagonews24 that he had heard a snake charmer had died of a snakebite.
