Local people in Madaripur trapped a crocodile and beat it to death. The incident took place at around 1pm on Saturday, 29 March, in Natun Andarchar village of Sahebrampur union in Kalkini upazila.

According to local sources, residents had been seeing a crocodile in the Palardi river for some days. The upazila administration made loudspeaker announcements to warn people, and residents had been on alert since.

On Saturday, villagers spotted the crocodile in a canal linked to the Palardi river at Natun Andarchar in Kalkini. They trapped it using various methods, and at one point the curious crowd tied it with rope and beat it to death.

Kalkini Upazila Nirbahi Officer Uttam Kumar Das said the crowd had beaten the crocodile to death, but killing wildlife is a punishable offence under the law.
