Many regular train commuters have probably seen the sight: small black mice scurrying about on the platform or under the rails.

Sam Rowley found them fascinating, and spent a week in the London Underground photographing them.

One night he took a picture of two mice fighting over the remains of food dropped by a passenger.

That picture has won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year LUMIX People's Choice Award. The station scuffle received nearly 28,000 votes.

Sam waited late at night at an underground station in central London so he could take good low-angle shots.

The two mice were apart at first, until at one point a fight broke out over the food.

"I was lucky to get the picture. I spent five days practically lying on the platform," Sam said.
