Irish dairy processor Kinisla has apologised to its milk suppliers after a "technical banking issue" delayed some of this month's milk payments. Farmers banking with Bank of Ireland were to be paid by 11pm on Friday, September 18; those with AIB and PTSB accounts were to receive their money the following morning; and suppliers with An Post or Credit Union accounts will not be paid until Monday morning.
The company said it regretted the "inconvenience". Some farmers, however, have voiced concern that they could face charges if direct debits and other bills fall due before the delayed milk money reaches their accounts.
Earlier in the week Kinisla set its price for August milk at 39.6c/L including VAT and its quality and sustainability bonuses. On the company's average milk solids for August, that works out at a return of 45.21c/L. The July price had been 39.1c/L, itself 1.1c/L above June, and gave a return of 42.25c/L on July's average solids.
Kinisla, formerly Kerry Dairy Ireland, has also launched a renewed three-year joint dairy programme with Teagasc, the Irish agriculture and food development authority. The 'Innovating for Success' programme continues a partnership that began 30 years ago and is meant to give suppliers on-farm learning and access to research and technical advice on the performance, profitability and sustainability of their dairy businesses.
