An injured Himalayan griffon vulture was found at Harishwartaluk in Rajarhat Sadar union, Kurigram, at about 2pm on 5 November. Acting on word from local people, Rajarhat acting forest officer Md Ariful Islam went to the spot and rescued it.
The bird was first taken to the Kurigram range office. Range officer Md Sadikul Islam said that after its condition was checked, it was sent to the Rangpur divisional forest office at about 5pm on Friday (6 November) for further treatment and care.
The Forest Department said this migratory vulture comes to Bangladesh from the Himalayas and nearby regions in winter. After the long journey, some birds grow weak or tired and shelter near people.
The department asked anyone who finds a sick, injured or endangered wild animal not to catch or disturb it and to inform foresters quickly.
