The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Savannah Seeds Private Limited of Gurugram, Haryana, have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on agricultural research, education, extension, technology validation, capacity building and sustainable farming.
The MoU was signed at NASC, Pusa, New Delhi, by ICAR Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) Dr Rajbir Singh and Savannah Seeds managing director Ajai Rana, in the presence of Dr M. L. Jat, Secretary of DARE and Director General of ICAR.
It covers joint research and technology validation, on-farm demonstrations, farmers' training, field days and exposure visits through ICAR institutes, ATARIs and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and joint work on agronomy, seed technology, crop protection, nutrient and water management and climate-resilient farming. Precision and digital agriculture, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and drones are listed as emerging areas to explore, along with extension material and digital advisory services.
ICAR will bring in its institutes, experts and support for technology assessment; Savannah Seeds will provide technical, operational and logistical support, staff, and financial or in-kind support where agreed. Specific activities will be set out in separate work plans.
The MoU runs for five years and does not by itself create a financial liability for either side; it includes provisions on confidentiality, intellectual property and publications.
