Between the Chelopara railway bridge and the Shah Fateh Ali bridge over the Karatoya river in Bogura lies a small playing field. Every morning it becomes a banana market, trading from first light until 9am. Prothom Alo's Bogura photographer Soyel Rana followed one morning there for a photo story.
Local traders say Anupam, Champa, Sagar, Shabri and other varieties of banana change hands at the market.
At dawn, farmers arrive from the villages with bananas in bags, and rows of baskets fill the field with Anupam bananas. Coded tally marks are drawn on the bananas.
Once a price is settled, the seller hands the fruit over. Some buyers carry their bananas off on their shoulders, others load them on to rickshaw vans, and a trader counts the money from the sales.
By 9am the trading is done, and the sellers pack up their baskets.
