A mini cold storage for farmers has opened at Hilalnagar village in Kashinagar union of Chauddagram upazila, Cumilla. The "Farmers' Mini Cold Storage" was set up under the government's incentive programme for the 2025-26 fiscal year and runs on a hybrid solar-operated system.

Chauddagram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shahadat Hossain formally inaugurated it on Thursday afternoon (24 September). Upazila Agriculture Officer Zobayer Ahmed presided over the ceremony.

The aim is to let marginal farmers in remote villages store their produce and get a fair price for it. Speaking as chief guest, the UNO said Hilalnagar was chosen because it lies far from the highway and is poorly connected, so that every farmer in the area could use the facility.

He handed responsibility for the cold store to the local farmers. "From today the cold storage is your asset, and you will look after all of its maintenance," the UNO said. Used properly, he said, it would benefit farmers and other people in the area and help farmers contribute to the national economy.

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Abdullah Al-Mamun Sagar, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Hamidur Rasul Nayan, sub-assistant agriculture officers Pradip Kumar, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Abu Kawsar, Kashinagar union parishad panel chairman Md Alamgir Hossain, Kashinagar bazar management committee secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and local political leaders were present.
