"Goat customers are not coming, and even when they come they don't make an offer," complained Firoz, who came from Dinajpur.

This correspondent spoke to him at the cattle market on the capital's 300 Feet road on Thursday (30 July).

Firoz said he had goats priced at Tk 12,000 to Tk 30,000. He came to the capital's market from Ghoraghat in Dinajpur with 74 goats but has so far managed to sell only three.

"Goat customers come and go. And they don't offer a proper price," he said.

Sumon, who came to buy a goat, had a counter-complaint. Sumon lives in Bashundhara Baridhara in the capital and works for a private company.

"The goat market is hotter than the cattle market. At the price they ask for a goat, you could get a cow," he said, half joking.

At the capital's livestock market, both cattle buyers and sellers were out in force, but there were almost no buyers in the goat section. The few buyers who came could not agree on a price with the sellers, so no sales were made.

Sellers complain that although they are asking fair prices, they are not getting the prices they hoped for from buyers.

Buyers, on the other hand, complain that goat sellers are asking higher prices because there are fewer cattle buyers.
