Floods may develop or worsen in low-lying riverside areas in various parts of the country in the next 24 to 48 hours. Flash and short-term floods are also possible in places.
This was stated in a forecast by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) on 20 July.
North and north-east
In the next 24 to 48 hours the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers may cause flash or short-term floods in some low-lying riverside areas of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts.
Over the same period the Surma-Kushiyara rivers may cause short-term floods in some low-lying riverside areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, or the flood situation may remain steady.
The Bhugai, Kangsha and Someshwari rivers in Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrokona districts, and the Sarigowain and Jadukata rivers in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, may cause short-term floods in some low-lying riverside areas, or the existing flood situation may worsen somewhat.
Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Atrai
In the next 24 to 48 hours the Brahmaputra-Jamuna may flow at warning level at some points in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, Sirajganj and Tangail districts, and some low-lying riverside areas may be inundated.
The Atrai and Chhoto Jamuna rivers may flow at warning level at some points in Naogaon and Natore districts, and some low-lying riverside areas may be temporarily inundated.
